Many thanks for this information. I started writing a Python script to
tidy up the tags: Simple job iwht FLAC and OGG. Getting ID3 for MP3
right is somewhat more challenging.
I had some issues with NFS in the past where scanning became painfully
slow. However, based on some strace observations I think that was an NFS
issue and had nothing to do with LMS. In order to compare things, I spun
up a second Squeezebox server VM using iSCSI as storage backend. When
connecting to the new node, I notice that my music folder during the
currently running initial scan still shows as 'Empty' in the Web UI.
To ease switching between the two nodes centrally, I set set them up a
Corosync/Pacemaker cluster where the only thing the cluster manages is a
single Virtual IP ("VIP"). The players connect to that VIP.
Would it be possible to also share the server settings
(/var/lib/squeezeboxserver/prefs) between the two cluster nodes (media
paths are all identical on both nodes) on some central storage? The only
real difference I see in the server.prefs file are two entries:
securitySecret: ...
server_uuid: ...
Is there any harm in having those identical on both machines when all
playeres only ever connect via the VIP? Or is LMS doing any network
discoveries for other servers that could be screwed up this way?
The idea of having two cluster nodes is that the passive one can do the
scanning, thus avoiding the empty folder issue on the players during the
scan. Once the scan is complete the passive node with the new scan
results could become active, while the squeezeboxserver on the formerly
active, now passive node, could be switched off for a short time to copy
the scan results in /var/lib/squeezeboxserver/prefs from the now active
node over and then be switched back on. This way a second scan could be
avoided and general maintanance would seem easier.
Best,
Ray
