There are a lot of people here and elsewhere using a Raspberry Pi to run LMS - and many using pCP to do it (it is not just a player). Unless you live in a area with lots of power cuts it is probably not worth (in my opinion) worrying much about losing the system on a bad power down event.
A backup (or 2) of the music library is usually enough. A rebuild (or using SD card backup) of LMS with a complete rescan of the library is probably good enough for most. Unless you really care about last played date or personal ratings for tracks then you can consider much of the LMS database as fairly easy to recreate. The time comes in configuring plugins or special audio hardware - but those are things that are changed infrequently so a backup can be done easily enough.
