One correction to my first post: I had successfully been running LMS
9.1, not 9.2. Answers to your questions:

"logitechmediaserver-8.0.0-1590233071-i386-readynas.bin" claims (in the
Netgear management app and its accompanying (highly condensed) log file)
to have been installed, but my Touch can't see it and the Web control
gets the error message described. I tested this just now without
deleting the "configuration and data" for LMS (an option in the
Netgear's management software) as well as with deleting it. Results were
the same.

"logitechmediaserver-7.9.3-1590229251-i386-readynas.bin" is the same
(but just now tested only without deleting "configuration and data".

"logitechmediaserver-7.9.2-i386-readynas.bin" is the same (but just now
tested only without deleting "configuration and data".

"logitechmediaserver-7.9.1-i386-readynas.bin", what I had been running,
still works when re-installed. When I reinstalled it after a test in
which I had not deleted "configuration and data", it picked up my
existing music library. When I reinstalled it after a test in which I
had deleted "configuration and data", it wanted me to log back into
mysqueezebox.com and tell it where to find my music, after which it
started to rescan the library from scratch. Note that I did not reach
this stage with my "clean" install of 8.0, because the Web Control never
loaded.

The ReadyNAS management software permits me to download "all log files",
which yields a zip file containing separate files for 72 or so types of
log information. Insofar as I can puzzle out the "slimserver.log"
information from some of my experiments:
1. It shows when 7.9.1 "started", (without version number), initialized
(with version number), and then (when I removed it) "stopped" (without
version number).
2. After I installed (not a clean install) of 8.0.0, it tells me
"squeezeboxserver_safe started" and then repeatedly tells me "Logitech
Media Server died. Restarting." No version number, though.
3. When I unloaded 8.0, it tells me "squeezeboxserver_safe stopped."
And then back to #1 when I reinstall 7.9.1.
