It says that if LMS receives audio with format "FLAC" then to send it to the player in for "AIFF", use "flac" external program to decode/transcode it if LMS receives audio with format "FLAC" then to send it to the player in for "FLAC", just forward it if LMS receives audio with format "FLAC" then to send it to the player in for "MP3", that does not work if LMS receives audio with format "FLAC" then to send it to the player in for "PCM, use "flac" external program to decode/transcode it The choice of the format to send to the player depends on various factors, including of course the player's capabilities (can it decode FLAC and up to which sample rate), where the audio comes from (file, internet stream) and what can the external program (transcoder) do (for example, can it seek at a given point).
