There's no harm in deleting static files that can be restored at will. Like you say, if it works then great, if it doesn't then just reset and try to find another solution.
I don't doubt you know what you're talking about. But it's little helpful here, as I'm trying to understand why something that should just work does not work.
As I said: feel free to start a new discussion in the dev group to look into your suggestions in detail. But not here. It's noise - and potentially doing more harm to users' installations. Thanks for your understanding.
