Are there any logs on the Vortexbox server showing the lookup attempt when ripping? Can the log level be increased? Assuming there is no problem with Linux text file line endings (I do not remember if Perl on Linux automatically supports Windows text line endings or if WinSCP sniffs the content and converts on the fly - but would be the next thing to look at if things are really strange) then another way that might work, given this is LMS underneath, would be to rip the CD on a local computer using software that supports creating the tags and then simply put the resulting files on the server.
