Right, I retried the setting log levels, its clear they did not persist
before, but there was no result from the log when I tried to connect
several times. 

So I'll try a wired connection. (Its right next door to a connected
router so I don't think signal level is an issue.) .....

... And it works perfectly, 

So back to wireless, and ... it doesn't. Bother. Ip address was the same
wired or non-wired.
