AFAIK there is no fixed limit, but as coverart is resized to match the player's capabilities and I run LMS on a small CPU I make a habit of reviewing the music files and resize the art to match the maximum display size which is 300x300 for the image included in the music file (used by the player) and 800x800 for the folder (used by the web GUI).
