I think the shortage is everywhere. But, you don't necessarily need the latest and greatest. I run one system on a 4, the other on a 3b+ and I only really notice any difference during library scan and for me it's insignificant.
Others can chime in, but I think you can actually run it on just about any model (correction requested), so you could get a "less desirable" on the 2nd hand market and switch over to something better later.
