I have no idea how Pandora works. For the Squeezebox, Last.fm is a
normal radio service that should be streaming the same music for
everyone, and it tries to synchronize the streams probably by buffering
a few seconds.

Last.fm is different. The music that is played is picked at random and
individually for each player. This means that two different boxes will
receive two different songs. The Squeezeboxes notice that they cannot
synchronize the streams and reset the connection.

If you use your SBS, there will be only one connection to Last.fm. The
Squeezeboxes get their audio streams from your SBS.
