I think it is a ridiculous way to solve this legitimate problem and could have been handled MUCH better.
Agreed. But unfortunately the much better way we tried for more than two years failed, because your manufacturer didn't show much interest. We got in touch with them back in Dec '13/Jan '14 for the first time.
