I agree that this is one hypothesis but it doesn't seem likely as one
probelmatic podcast is from BBC who, AFAICT have contracted their
streaming services to a 3rd party - it would be very odd for a
commercial service to have such inconsistency. That said some ISP
utilise caching and keep copies of frequently requested content locally,
this is variant of the different server and might be applicable to OP. 


This strange behaviour doesn't really explain why OP can sometimes do
ffw/rew with mp3 podcast using mysqueezebox.com and I cannot find any
podcast to do it.
