I have done some more investigation. It turns out that if I install a
local LMS on my computer and connect the SB Touch to that I can
successfully play tracks on Tidal. But as soon as I connect to
mysqueezebox.com I get the same error again, so this looks to be
related

Ok, I believe I was mislead as I was only looking at "latest" code (mostly LMS8, but should be the same for LMS 7.9). But mysb is still running a version of 7.7... which needed some tweaking, too. I'm in the process of updating all service instances on mysb, too. That should hopefully get rid of the "invalid ID" errors.

If you're running LMS, then make sure you're running the released 7.9.3 (or latest 8.0).

If you're getting the "unsupported file type", then this is due to TIDAL's changing from universally compatible MP3 to AAC - which is not natively supported in our older players. In that case you'd have to install the still somewhat experimental LMS8 nightly build. You will NOT be able to stream lossy TIDAL to Transporter/Classic/Receiver/Boom any more when connected to mysqueezebox.com.
