When the song goes bad and I hit pause and then play on the controller, I see buffering and the controller displays "3% buffering", but does not count up. It keeps displays 3% buffering, flashes a few time and after 30 seconds it gives up and starts the next song. Music will continue until the song is corrupted again.... sigh.
Please read this thread for details. Summary: Lossy TIDAL now is AAC and no longer MP3. You can't play AAC on older players like the Receiver, unless you're running LMS8.
