Like u said, I was having the same problem.
On redhat 7.1, I was using the same version of php and I upgrade to 4.1.2.
Note this: The rpm upgrade doesn't upgrades the php.ini file, instead it
creates a php.ini.rpmnew, try replacing the php.ini file (backup it!)
with php.ini.rpmnew and service httpd restart.
