Yup. I am sure alright. After a few days of users screaming at me, I was
DAMN sure to pull that thing out of the production environment. Perhaps
there was another fortunate compile time option that made this magically
work for me.

Compile options:

vpopmail...
./configure \
--enable-roaming-users=y \
--enable-clear-passwd=y \
--enable-valias=y \
--enable-mysql=y

SqWebMail...

./configure \
--enable-imagedir=/home/wim/sqwebmail/images \
--enable-imageurl=/sqwebmail_images \
--enable-cgibindir=/home/wim/sqwebmail/cgi \
--enable-webpass=vpopmail \
--disable-autorenamesent \
--enable-hardtimeout=7200 \
--enable-softtimeout=7200 \
--with-maxargsize=2097152 \
--with-maxformargsize=20971520 \
--with-maxmsgsize=20971520 \
--without-authdaemon \
--with-authvchkpw \
--without-authpwd \
--without-authshadow \
--without-authpam \
--without-authmysql \
--without-authuserdb \
--without-authldap ;

Hmmm... I'm running:

vpopmail 5.2.1
sqwebmail 3.4.0

Are you sure authdaemon isn't running? I can't change passwords. I get an
error.
