I too read that the users would no longer be able to change their own passwords from SqWebMail, but this seems to be false in my case. I compiled without the authdaemon, and my users CAN change their own passwords through SqWebMail. Perhaps I misread the docs. It has happened before :-) .
My biggest concern was the warning that the performance of SqWebMail could be poor if the server experienced a heavy load. So far I have been happy with the performance, but it is likely that my idea of heavy load is a bit more low scale than the author's. Frankly I feel bad about telling people to disable the daemon. The author of the code is probably cursing me :-). It sounds like the daemon is a good idea, that just needs a little bugfixing. I like the idea of the cached authentication, but it seems to be a little unreliable for my use. PS: I am using... vpopmail - 5.2.1 - only mysql auth SqWebMail - 3.3.7 - only vchkpw auth Regards, -- Fred Read Web In Motion Web Hosting and Managed Colocation [EMAIL PROTECTED] http://www.webinmotion.net Phone: (905) 261-3165 Fax: (905) 438-1468 "Lars Olav Tveito" To: "Mick Martin" <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> <[EMAIL PROTECTED] cc: <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> o> Subject: [sqwebmail] Re: Authenticaton 22/11/2002 02:28 PM Please respond to "Lars Olav Tveito" I have had the same problem as you have. Autentication failing for an increasing number of users, until authdaemon is restarted. Then everything works fine for some hours or some days, and then autentication starts failing again. I soon got tired of restarting authdaemon. This problem has been discussed noumerous times on this list. The solution Fred Read suggested to you have been reported by several persons to fix your problem. I also followed similar instructions some time ago and now my system works stable and fine. The idea is to NOT use authdaemon at all, since it is very needy for restarts. Compiling using --without-authdaemon and --with-authvchkpw and also --witout all other autentication metods (like Fred Read describes). This will make sqWebMail autenticate directly with vpopmail and skipping authdaemon as a middle man. Do not start authdaemon at all. The only downside to this is that your users will lose the possibility to change their password. (But this they may do with qmailadmin - if you have it installed) Lars Olav Tveito [EMAIL PROTECTED] ----- Original Message ----- From: <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> To: "Mick Martin" <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> Cc: <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> Sent: Friday, November 22, 2002 8:01 PM Subject: [sqwebmail] Re: Authenticaton > > There is.
