First thing that could help cut down noise on the list is an archive of old messages. I would think there is one but I was not able to find it after some searching. Next, a message at compilation time is helpful, but easy to miss or forget about by the time authentication errors are discovered. It is easy to assume that the problem is with sqwebmail since every other program authenticates flawlessly with vpopmail. A simple "vpopmail must be upgraded" would be good, but my vpopmail has been upgraded and I'm still having issues. Perhaps adding the message displayed at compilation time to the email sent to new list members would be best, along with a link to a list archive (if there is one).
