Well, I thought about just jumping in with both feet and pulling a couple of all
nighters to try to get a few goodies built and installed on my new bone stock Ruby.
Then I thought it might just look like what it would have been. A rush job. Then I
thought of all the great conversions that I would see in DH and think, 'gee, why
didn't I do that?'. My conclusion? My Ruby will retain the side tanks, original cab,
buffer beams, no R/C, etc. until I glean ideas from all of you guys. Then she's
going under the knife. She looks pretty plain sitting here on the desk in stock
condition. I did put a long arm throttle on though to help with preventing (?) burnt
fingers. Went and bought an R/C unit today so it might get R/C before the DH trip.
Unsure right now.
I did run her for about 2 hours today trying to find all her quirks, likes and
dislikes. Maybe she's close enough to broke in now to run well at DH. BTW, this
engine has worse leaks around the rod and cylinder heads than the last one that I
had with lots of hours on her. Other than that, it seems in slightly better running
condition right out of the box.
Vance, will you be taking any of the cab, pilot and running board kits to sell in
DH? If so, save me one. I'm going to take the "easy out" and buy one of your kits
this time instead of building from scratch.
