I won't be able to do a careful review of this for a week or more, but
this works for me, assuming I can't talk anyone out of v= being
required and hash= optional or not included in the new world. I think
this version's approach will work, and that backward compatibility
will be fine.
minor nit: should the example node URI really end in "/"?
