My apologies for not following this thread as closely/frequently as I
would like, but FYI we (ECF project) is soon releasing some work using
XMPP for real-time document sharing. Here's a video demo.

This version of ECF (2.0.0) also has some other collaboration features
built on XMPP (e.g. screen capture, and url sharing, etc) but the rt
shared editing is most directly relevant to this thread. If you want
some other views of what we're doing and why see:
