Interesting. I've cc'd the [EMAIL PROTECTED] list because that's
where we've been having the most focused discussion of this and related
topics.
Sure...thanks.
Just so it's clear, the shared editing, as well as the other collab
features are all based upon the following API:
http://wiki.eclipse.org/ECF_API_Docs#Datashare_API
The protocol/local logic for shared editing sync (called cola) is, of
course, different than the protocols for other collab features, but all
converge at datashare level (and then are implemented underneath via
xmpp or other).
Please just LMK if more information or pointers are desired.

Hi Folks,
My apologies for not following this thread as closely/frequently as I
would like, but FYI we (ECF project) is soon releasing some work using
XMPP for real-time document sharing. Here's a video demo.

This version of ECF (2.0.0) also has some other collaboration features
built on XMPP (e.g. screen capture, and url sharing, etc) but the rt
shared editing is most directly relevant to this thread. If you want
some other views of what we're doing and why see:
http://www.eclipse.org/ecf/ under 'What's New'.
FYI.

I hope we can move forward quickly and finalize a way forward at the

Summit in July.
I hope we will have enough people at the Summit who know and care about
real-time collaboration to make forward progress possible -- right now a
high percentage of the folks who are attending are more interested in
social networking, pubsub, and the like...
