This is how the modern XMPP handles it. I'm afraid it's time to drop
your ideals. I had time to study it and to test it. Sorry.

We're here to fix the problems, not to say they doesn't exist :).

As for message receipts, they don't work in many cases (privacy
issues, etc). You CANNOT expect anyone to send you message reciepts
(just as you cannot with e-mail).

Oh, read better, in XEP-198, there is NOTHING about (reliable) delivery.
