Even xep-198 helps much better but doesn't work alone and is not
required anyway.

I haven't said it helps reliability, but the sender is warned that the message has not arrived and can resend it.

This is awfully useful, as you often don't know what the last message was that someone received.

And for me, it's enough if Gajim supports it, as that is already more than 50% of my roster, I guess :). We need to encourage more client developers to implement it. Gajim already gives a good example of how you could display messages that did not arrive to the user (AFAIK, it's the only client showing that to the user so far).
