I think people are misunderstanding the intention of this based purely on the name - it's not intended as a way to do a "photo gallery" but for providing a 'gallery' of posts, each of which has an associated picture. The feature itself is useful and this is an adequate way to do it. While 'gallery' is an appropriate name for it, if it leads to misguided expectations of its purpose, maybe a different name would be preferable, e.g. showcase, or exhibition.
