Hi, Leon.
Your new Yamaha CDRW is IDE, not SCSI.
You don't say whether your present CD-ROM is SCSI or IDE. (Look in Apple
System profiler to find out.) If it's SCSI, you can leave it in if you
want: it's handy for copying, and the lasers on CDRW's are expensive, and
don't last as long. There will be a cable with nothing plugged in for your
new Yamaha.
If your CD-ROM is IDE, it will be on one of two IDE ports as 'Master'; the
other will have your hard drive on it, also as 'Master'. (Trace the cables
back to the Motherboard: one will be called IDE, the other ATAPI.) Replace
with your new Yamaha. It will work at its rated speed. (I have a similar
Yamaha CDRW: it works fine.)

There is no conflict: either you will have 2 IDE masters on two plugs, or
one SCSI and one IDE.
Hope this helps.
