Disc images can be (IIRC) made with several programs, you can use the free
Disk Copy supplied by Apple. If its not on your hard disc, try looking for
it on your System CD.

Start it up, and put in the CD you want an image of. I don't know how
older versions work, but certainly with my version (6.3.3), just drag the
disc's icon (or a folder icon) onto the Disk Copy window, and complete the
dialog that appears to specifiy the name, location and settings for the
image. (Zero all blocks is probably pointless if you're doing a CD image).
(If dragging fails, try choosing Image>Create Image From Disk, and select
the CD from there.)

Note that disc images can be read-write, faking a disc. You can even make
a CD "readable" by saving it to a read-write image.

Click OK; Disk Copy will then create a file on the hard disc containing
the entire contents of the CD. When it's done, you can double-click that
file, and Disk Copy will run, and mount the disc image as if it were a
real CD, you can even un-mount the pretend CD icon you get by dragging it
to the trash.

Your CD is now transferred to the hard disc, and can be read from much
faster than the original.
