Good points Louis, but I can't afford a sound card at the moment, but 
I have got Peak so I can probally clean them up a bit with that, but 
then again that doesn't really sit that well with me. It's a bit like 
the Vatican sending the Turin shroud out to be dry cleaned;)

They're not actually the original 78's, although I have got a few of 
those. I just want to didgitise my Yazoo records collection, so I 
don't have to play the originals anymore.
