> And what do you think about using Internet Explorer 5.x instead?

Personally, I found Internet Explorer 5 to be too unstable to use (it used
to lock up the machine every so often), but if you find that it does indeed
work for you, then it is actually a very nice browser. Actually, I've always
though that Netscape was stable, so it just shows how different people's
experiences can be.

One thing that iCab (my preferred browser) and IE both have in common is a
download manager window, and both feature HTTP download resuming (although
that's another issue entirely) - I'd never recommend Netscape as a program
to use for downloading anything.

If the connection dropped, which is what it looks like happened to you, in
Netscape you're probably just screwed forevermore. In IE, iCab or other
download managers I assume, you could attempt (server features permitting)
to resume the file where you left off. I've even wanted to do that in
Windows, but Windows IE's download interface is like Netscape - a separe
progress-only window per download, and no hope of a resume.

As for it not appearing on the desktop - maybe it downloads it to a
different location (e.g. a temporary folder) and moves/copies it to the
desktop when done (Win IE does that). It might have just deleted it thinking
it was no good complete; I think I've seen that behaviour from a program,
too. I don't use Netscape normally anyway, and certainly not to download
stuff.

So, yes, I'd say try IE. If it works as well as someone here said it does,
it's a nice browser. Otherwise, you'll need something else.

- Daniel.
