Hope all is well. I am trying to (finally) upgrade to O.S.9 on my Starmax 4400 with G3 chip. I have the original CD-rom drive (from 1997) and FWB's CD-Rom toolkit. My problem: I cannot boot from the OS 9 CD. I remember from a long time ago there's something special that I need to do in order to boot up from the CD because of Motorola's special hardware, but for the life of me I cannot remember. Could someone please save me hours more of trouble? At the moment, when I try to boot from the CD by pressing down on the C key, the system freezes at the smiley mac (I never get as far as "welcome to macintosh"). I have tried disabling the CD-rom Toolkit from the extensions manager and control panel but that doesn't help. Thanks much!
