Thank you all for your comments and suggestions. We were at the point
where we never saw the ethernet card, we had lost the USB card, and also
the OS was not loading (no ding) on startup about every other time.

We pressed the CUDA button, which returned stability to the OS and it
now starts normally every time. However, it didn't do anything for the
PCI cards. We tried the ethernet card in different slots and never saw
anything about it anywhere in the profiler, either under devices or
under networks. We removed the ethernet card and tried the USB card in
a different, never-used slot, and also reinstalled the driver, but still
can't see the USB card. I would be wondering if all the PCI slots were
somehow screwed up, but the ATI XCLAIM display card, which is located in
the first slot, still works.

So, we still don't have any way of networking to the powerbook, and the
starmax has lost a large portion of its usefulness without the USB
ports. There is a real lack of repair people around here to look at the
computer, so I'm not sure what we will do. If we can get the USB port
back, does anyone know if something like the bluetooth USB adapter
would work on the Starmax, or do they require an upgrade to the
processor or OS? Any further suggestions are welcome. Thanks again.
