Tekserve in NYC was (is?) an authorized Starmax repair facility. Even though all Starmaxes should be out of warranty it is possible that some people there still know enough about the SM to answer your problem. It would not hurt to email them, through their website. They have done all the repair work on the two SMs I had bought new. drscheiner
