The D-Link DFE-530TX+ *will* work in a PCI Macintosh. This card is fairly cheap and widely available in the States, at least. The D-Link DFE-530TX *will not* work. Please note the slight difference in model numbers.

Any further infor on setup would also be helpful too! I have an Allied Telesyn AT-2500TX that I bought online from Mac Warehouse. In actual fact, I ordered a Dynamode card from them that they claimed was Mac compatible, but I had doubts so in the comments box on the order page I wrote something like that the order was null and void if in fact the card didn't work on a Mac. And it didn't, apparently, as I soon got a phone call suggesting they change the order for a different one that was Mac compatible that didn't cost much more. Bear this in mind if you order a different card from them ;) The card works fine in 9.1 - the only problem I experience is that during many screen updates (usually, scrolling) that occur during a period of high network activity (e.g. downloading a file) my music will briefly cut out (MP3 etc - CD audio is not affected). A pain, but I don't do many downloads and postpone long ones until I leave the machine for a while. I don't know whether this issue is just with my driver, or is a problem in Mac OS itself - no-one seems to know. The current Allied Telesyn card available at Mac Warehouse is now the 2501TX: http://www.macwarehouse.co.uk/product.aspx?SKU=E488166 The site says Windows-only, but they're a bit clueless - the Allied Telesyn site itself has the drivers for download: http://www.alliedtelesyn.co.uk/allied/products/viewproduct.asp?category=1&id =626&country=264&lang=en although don't expect them to be in the box - the CD will be PC-only. With mine, I had to go to the chipset maker's site (RealTek), locate the chipset number that I read off the main chip on the card, download it and patch it manually :) You might not need to do that if the drivers are pre-patched by Allied Telesyn. (Basically, AT sell cards with RealTek chipsets in, and RealTek themselves make the drivers, not AT or any of the numerous other RealTek based cards like the D-Link DFE-530TX+ card commonly used in StarMaxes in the US). I can't promise that the AT-2501TX will work, although it does have 8.6-10.2.x Mac drivers and shouldn't be too different to the 2500TX? It's cheap, anyhow :) Though if by "OS8" you literally mean 8 (8.0 or 8.1), you'll need 8.6 or higher to use that card. A more expensive one that Mac Warehouse claim does work on a Mac is this 3com card: http://www.macwarehouse.co.uk/product.aspx?SKU=E372308 (expensive by US and PC standards anyhow :) Costs more, but you should be able to trust that one to work. Didn't check the driver versions, though. Note that if you search the site for other cards with advanced search, look for cross-platform cards as well as Mac-only, as that's where they're likely to be. Though ultimately, anything you can get hold of with the RealTek 8129 and 8139 chipsets should work, as you can just patch the drivers accordingly (instructions for this procedure are supplied in the download with the drivers, and it's pretty simple - just need to change a piece of text inside the driver file to match the ID of the card itself). Installing the card should be easy - install card, install driver and reboot. Some people claim you need to press and hold the CUDA button on the motherboard after putting the card in, although I didn't bother and I never needed to either. I don't know if there are any issues with appropriate choice of PCI slot on a 3000 - in my 4000/200DT I just shoved it in the one at the top I think and it worked. -- StarMax is sponsored by <http://lowendmac.com/> and... / Buy books, CDs, videos, and more from Amazon.com \ / <http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/redirect-home/lowendmac> \ Support Low End Mac <http://lowendmac.com/lists/support.html> StarMax list info: <http://lowendmac.com/lists/starmax.html> --> AOL users, remove "mailto:" Send list messages to: <mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED]> To unsubscribe, email: <mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED]> For digest mode, email: <mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED]> Subscription questions: <mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED]> Archive: <http://www.mail-archive.com/starmax%40mail.maclaunch.com/> Using a Mac?
