Help! Looking to buy a network card for my Starmax 3000/240 with OS8 96MB RAM
You could try eBay UK and look in the Mac section. I got my Kingston Technology KNE100TX card that way and it works like a dream with ADSL via a router. Sellers often include links to the maker's web sites where you can check compatibility and download drivers.
This URL will list what's available:
<http://search.ebay.co.uk/search/search.dll?query=ethernet+pci&catref=C3&from=R2&sacategory=4599&BasicSearch=>
I just went there and saw the guy I bought my card from is selling another one. I'm running OS 8.6, though. The readme says:
"Kingston EtheRx PCI 10/100 Fast Ethernet Adapter
This product is designed for use with Open Transport 1.0.8 or later. Kingston suggests that user should install the latest Open Transport for the System Software that is recommended by Apple. For shipping releases of System Software, Open Transport 1.1.2 is the latest officially sanctioned release for use on System Software 7.6.1 and earlier. Beginning with Open Transport 1.2, Apple provided the Open Transport Installer as part of the System Software Installer (or Update). This driver has been tested with System Software 8.5x and System 8.6."
That seems to mean they haven't tested it with lower than OS 8.5, but it should work.
Good luck, Chris Adams.
