Hi Al,

Once you are in. . . run Disk Warrior, Disk First Aid, TeckTool Pro 3,
Update your driver using "Drive Setup". . . all on your "sleeping" hard drive.

The "S" key or moving your mouse should take it out of sleep mode.
Once you boot from the CD. . . Go to your Control Panels and turn off sleep mode.

See if any of that moves you along.
