First off, posting private correspondence to an email list without
permission of the sender violates the most basic rule of netiquette.

Second, I probably receive more spam in any given day than you or most
members of any of my email lists - but with two exceptions in seven
years, none of them have come through the lists.

Third, if you post anything to the Internet, you should consider it to be
a public record. Further, our list FAQ states that all postings are
archived. That includes your email address, since it is part of your
posting.

Archives are for the benefit of those who research before posting, and
there are two searchable archives. The one on Maclaunch is short-term and
older messages are deleted when the mailbox reaches a certain size.
Because of this, we have a long-term archive as well, and the link to it
is posted in the footer of each and every message from the list:

Archive: <http://www.mail-archive.com/starmax%40mail.maclaunch.com/>

Beyond that, the simple fact is that any email address is subject to
spam. I have several which have never once been used to post messages to
a list, order items online, or provided as an online link, yet they
receive spam. That's because email is free, so it costs nothing but
computer cycles for a spambot to generate billions upon billions of email
addresses - whether they begin with resident, listmom, dknight, or
s3hd8934bd.

Try it. Get a free Yahoo, Gmail, or other account. Don't use it for
anything. Just check it every few days - you will get spam.

I like nonsense, it wakes up the brain cells. Fantasy is a necessary
ingredient in living, it's a way of looking at life through the wrong
end of a telescope and that enables you to laugh at life's realities.
