Doesn't Norton come with a util for making a start-up floppy (or, iirc, it came with a floppy in the box?), from which you can access the Norton disk tools CD? It's been so long since I've Norton'd my Max I'm afraid I can't recall how I did it, though now that you mention it, it's likely well past time to do it again.
