In my view, our most serious long-standing problem is stability. If we can solve those problems by moving to an alpha release of Qt then I would be both delighted and very surprised.
I think it would be a very nice idea for anyone who is interested in bleeding-edge Qt to start a branch which makes use of new features and can act as a stability test.
