You are correct. . . well done and thank you so much for your
persistence on the matter. I assumed that with the trailing wp-
stats.php in the url  it was attached to the stats component. but it
was not!  although it was installed as a module in the CMS. which
leaves me wondering how?  but thats for another day, i think.

anyway problem resolved. .  no big red screen in chrome anymore.

thanks again to all for your help with this issue. i have to say
looking back on the situation, chrome has a very good security
awareness system in place.
