Hope I'm not annoying everyone by bumping this to the top again, but I'm inclined to believe there's a bug causing this.
I wrote a short dtrace script that dumps everything from the smbsrv provider. If I start a file copy from the share (which stalls at the outset), then fire up the dtrace script to start dumping information from all the probes, the copy takes off. Kill dtrace, copy stalls. What gives? dtrace isn't supposed to impact performance or functionality.... I'd file a bug report, but I have no idea how I'd describe it, other than pasting exactly what I've done to reproduce the problem.
