Hey guys,

It would appear there are two issues being discussed in this thread, and we certainly appreciate any and all input. Can anyone comment on the RPC issues and what was done to resolve them?

I'm still stuck :( - I want to give up and try something else, but
IMHO there just isn't an equivalent solution for low bandwidth
active/active filesystem replication.

When using OpenSolaris 2008.11, you are likely impacted by a defect in the OpenSolaris IPS packaging system: http://defect.opensolaris.org/bz/show_bug.cgi?id=5115

The workaround is to selectively add the four AVS packages in dependency order, or if removing AVS, to remove the in reverse dependency order. This must be done on both the SNDR primary and SNDR secondary nodes.

AVS packages must be downloaded one at a time, and in install order:

        SUNWscm
        SUNWspsv
        SUNWrdc
        SUNWii

Once AVS is installed, the command 'dscfgadm' starts the AVS services.

To remove AVS one must invoke "dscfgadm -d", which disables the AVS services.
Then the packages MUST be removed in reverse order from above.

        SUNWii
        SUNWrdc
        SUNWspsv
        SUNWscm

On your Wik, http://havokmon.blogspot.com/2009/01/opensolaris-200811-activeactive-disk.html , the following error is a symptom of installing packages out of order.

        # dscfgadm 'y' to start avs service.
Would you like to start the services now? [y,n,?] y
        If get you something like:
svcadm: Instance "svc:/system/nws_scm:default" is in maintenance state.
        nws_scm failed to enable

        Then:
        #svcadm enable nws_scm
        Then re-run dscfgadm

This command does not correctly resolve the OpenSolaris 2008.11 defect, it just suppresses the error message.

The reported RPC issue is also related to the above, and is a symptom of these two SNDR daemon process starting up out of order.

SNDR client daemons sndrd and sndrsyncd

Please follow the correct removal and installation of AVS's packages above.

Joshua - Have you had any luck in resolving this RPC issue with AVS
replication between two nodes?
