I've used Silicon Mechanics for my filer. So has another sysadmin I know. He has had great luck with his boxes, me, not so much. I actually had to send mine back to SiMech to get them to sort out a problem with disk controllers.
I'd recommend getting a very clear promise from your whitebox vendor that they will *fully* support your OS choice.
