I have a VMware lab at home. I use both Openfiler and OpenSolaris. Openfiler is OK, I have P4 that does not support 64 bit, and Solaris performs poor as a storage server on 32 bit hardware. I have to use Openfiler; however, Openfiler is not fast either.
I have another storage server on Solaris with 64 bit opterons, 8G memory, fiber channel HBA. It performs very well and I enjoy the features similar to NetApp I use at work. I do suggest you use NFS instead of iSCSI for datastore. NFS is a lot easier to deal with, and you can take full advantage of ZFS snapshot. iSCSI requires you to use VCB to backup VMs. The performance between NFS and iSCSI is also close enough. -- This message posted from opensolaris.org _______________________________________________ storage-discuss mailing list [email protected] http://mail.opensolaris.org/mailman/listinfo/storage-discuss
