Thanks for the response. I'm looking to build something similar, will
probably be an Intel Quad proc with 8 or 12GB of RAM. Was actually going to
look for the CK13601 as well; may as well get the extra ports if it's only
going to be $100-$250 more...

I know a guy who's doing exactly this, it works fine.  He has the
CK13601, which is similar but has more ports.  The setup works fine
after a bit of fiddling (he had to set a jumper on the expander which
makes it use older firmware to make it behave, see [1]).  However,
it's not in production yet.

He also mentioned that the system (with 10 1.5TB Samsung F2 drives, a
quad-core processor, and 4GB of memory) only draws 130W at idle.  Not
bad.

Have you found a source for the Chenbro expander?  Most places I've
found seem to be out of them, and [2] claims they're out of
production, to be replaced by the 6gbps expanders.
