Also, I'm a bit leery on the Chenbro as I've been reading issues some users have had with it over on this post:
http://www.avsforum.com/avs-vb/showthread.php?t=1071162 But the issues seem to stem from using hardware RAID controllers... As I'd just be using it as a JBOD hopefully I wouldn't have the same issues. -----Original Message----- From: [email protected] [mailto:[email protected]] On Behalf Of Ryan Holt Sent: Thursday, August 06, 2009 6:33 PM To: 'Will Murnane' Cc: 'Chris Du'; [email protected] Subject: Re: [storage-discuss] LSI HBAs and Extenders Thanks for the response. I'm looking to build something similar, will probably be an Intel Quad proc with 8 or 12GB of RAM. Was actually going to look for the CK13601 as well; may as well get the extra ports if it's only going to be $100-$250 more... I found a few places: http://www.softchoice.com/catalog/product.aspx?R=CN2894_US_EN https://www.compumusic.com/i512922.htm http://www.provantage.com/chenbro-micom-ck13601~7CHEN0FH.htm The second link has the UEK Universal Expander Kit as well... -----Original Message----- From: Will Murnane [mailto:[email protected]] Sent: Thursday, August 06, 2009 6:28 PM To: Ryan Holt Cc: Chris Du; [email protected] Subject: Re: [storage-discuss] LSI HBAs and Extenders On Thu, Aug 6, 2009 at 18:04, Ryan Holt<[email protected]> wrote: > But if I wanted a "PCI" based card such as this: > > http://usa.chenbro.com/corporatesite/products_detail.php?sku=73 > > to put into the same case and connect 20 drives to the same HBA I'd be out > of luck, right? Looking to get one of these Norco 4220 cases: I know a guy who's doing exactly this, it works fine. He has the CK13601, which is similar but has more ports. The setup works fine after a bit of fiddling (he had to set a jumper on the expander which makes it use older firmware to make it behave, see [1]). However, it's not in production yet. He also mentioned that the system (with 10 1.5TB Samsung F2 drives, a quad-core processor, and 4GB of memory) only draws 130W at idle. Not bad. Have you found a source for the Chenbro expander? Most places I've found seem to be out of them, and [2] claims they're out of production, to be replaced by the 6gbps expanders.
