Well, let me chime in here, since the original poster lost interest. I have this SAS controller on a Supermicro X8DA3 motherboard. It's a nice motherboard: http://www.supermicro.com/products/motherboard/QPI/5500/X8DA3.cfm
This is one of 2 controllers onboard, and controls the 8 bay disk array here: http://www.supermicro.com/products/chassis/4U/743/SC743TQ-865.cfm I can certainly drop in an 8 port SATA controller that is supported, but there's 2 things I dislike about that. First, I would have to string SATA cables everywhere (the connectors for the 8208 are conveniently close to the drive bay, plus they're ML cables, so there is only 2 of them). Secondly, I would have to lose a slot. I can understand support not being in the driver for the HW RAID, but aren't there plenty of LSI non-RAID cards? Is the issue that LSI doesn't want to play? duckhead -- This message posted from opensolaris.org _______________________________________________ storage-discuss mailing list [email protected] http://mail.opensolaris.org/mailman/listinfo/storage-discuss
