Hi Brian I'm not familiar with how 'badblocks' works, and don't have you source code to hand, but I guess it does a read/write on each sector.
Did you try running 'badblocks' on a good drive, to compare how long it took, compared to your problem drive? Are all your drives the exact same model AND firmware revision? This is often reported by 'cfgadm -v'. Have you tried with a new/replacement drive yet?
