I see no mention of ata(7d) (Intel?) or dad(7d) (SPARC?) drivers (or perhaps more usefully, sata(7d)), despite seeing info that there will be 4k sector (S)ATA drives.
Is that because http://www.idema.org/_smartsite/modules/local/data_file/show_file.php?cmd=download&data_file_id=1261 apparently says that such devices will behave in a backward compatible manner (but with a performance hit for non 4k aligned logical sectors due to read-modify-write)? Anyway, I'd suppose that if a 4k device is detected, whether SCSI or (S)ATA (or anything else applicable), performance would be best if both partitions and filesystem blocks were constrained to 4k alignment. So maybe the (S)ATA driver(s) (and/or format) do have some role to play in that case? -- This message posted from opensolaris.org _______________________________________________ storage-discuss mailing list storage-discuss@opensolaris.org http://mail.opensolaris.org/mailman/listinfo/storage-discuss
