Great info. Thanks Kevin. I guess many folks have hear of Craig
McPhearson's sources.list. I know a lot of it is for the unstable
version (woody I am guessing) but does anybody have some useful
sites that I could add to my sources.list? TIA.

You can use regular debian packages without any problem. Most
of the
packages in Storm Linux are straight from Debian - the basic
difference
between debian and storm is there are additional Stormix-authored
packages
available with Storm Linux (such as stormpkg and sas, although
stormpkg is
now in Woody). And some packages have been recompiled for storm-potato
(a.k.a. hail) from higher versions numbers than are in an ordinary
potato
(I think ...)

Yes.

You can install just single .debs that you download from misc.
sources
(such as a woody ftp site) by running something like:
dpkg -i xchat_1.6.0-2.deb
Of course, in this case it's not going to work since this version
of xchat
is compiled against a higher version of libc6 than is in potato.
In which
case you'd need to either go to woody or compile your xchat 1.6
from a
tarball ...
