Obviously ,the subscribing thing was intented after you have kde
running.:-)
Now this is a command I've digged from the list for similar problems
update-alternatives --install /usr/bin/x-window-manager x-window-manager
/usr/bin/kde2 50
If you do a startx this is supposed to start kde2 as default.
It also depends on what display manager you're using :gdm,kdm,xdm .
I using gdm and I followed a post made by somebodyfrom Stormix-tech
support on this list(sorry forgot the name).
cd /etc/gsm/Sessions
ln debian kde2
and works for me.
